A stainless microwave hood combination mounted under white shaker wall cabinets in a US kitchen, the microwave's side-hinged door closed with its dark mesh window, a plain glass bowl visible faintly on the glass turntable inside the microwave, the lamp on its underside glowing softly onto a cooking surface that is cropped and out of focus at the bottom edge.

Thermador microwaves,
specifically.

Thermador's microwave line covers the MicroDrawer for under-counter installs, drop-down and side-swing built-in microwaves, the MU30WSU hood combination and two 30-inch speed ovens. Its speed ovens are wired like a small oven rather than plugged in, which changes how a no-power call is handled.

The Thermador lineup

What is particular
to Thermador.

We service the Thermador MicroDrawer (MD24BS, MD30BS), the MB30WS drop-down and MBCS side-swing built-in microwaves, the MU30WSU hood combination and the MC30WS and MC30WP speed ovens. The Masterpiece and Professional collections differ in trim, which matters for door and handle parts.

Speed ovens on a 240-volt line

The MC30WS speed oven is rated for 208 or 240 volts and connects with a four-wire fixed connection, with 1,700-watt convection and 1,750-watt broil elements. Loss of heat in the convection modes can come from the supply side, so both legs of the circuit get measured.

A hood model cleared for named models below it

Thermador's spec sheet approves the MU30WSU for mounting above specific Pro Harmony and induction models by model number. It moves 385 CFM with four fan speeds and uses a triple distribution turntable disk for more even heating.

MicroDrawer lock covers the door motor

Panel Lock on the MicroDrawer disables both the keys and the automatic door mechanism, and it drops out whenever power is interrupted. The control panel folds down to a 60-degree angle, so it is out of sight when the drawer seems unresponsive.

Side-swing model needs its trim

The MBCS side-swing built-in microwave, 2.1 cubic feet, is sold to be installed with the MBT30CS trim kit. When it is replaced, the kit and cut-out have to match.

Parts

Door, handle and glass parts differ between the Masterpiece and Professional finishes and are ordered by exact model. The MicroDrawer's drive parts and the speed oven's elements are model-specific and confirmed before ordering.

Repair or replace

Built-in, drawer and speed oven installs are sized to their openings and trims, so repair is nearly always the better choice. A hood combination with a failed magnetron after many years of use deserves a side-by-side comparison.

Questions about
Thermador microwaves.

Why won't my Thermador MicroDrawer open with the Open key?
Check the display for LOCK ON, which also blocks the automatic door. Hold 5 for three seconds to release it; if the drawer still sits still, book a visit.
Does a Thermador speed oven plug into a normal outlet?
No. The MC30WS is rated for 208 or 240 volts with a four-wire fixed connection, so it is wired in by an electrician.
Where is the control panel on a Thermador MicroDrawer?
It is a concealed drop-down panel that opens to about 60 degrees. If you cannot see the display, lower the panel first.
Can I use a Thermador MicroDrawer right after it is plugged in?
Manual cooking works, but Thermador asks you to wait two minutes before using sensor settings, or they may end in ERROR.
