We service Bosch 300, 500 and 800 Series over-the-range microwaves (HMV models), built-in microwaves (HMB), the HMD drawer microwaves and the HMC speed ovens. The series and model are printed on the data plate, which Bosch asks you to have ready.

A speed oven that plugs in

The 500 Series 24-inch speed oven, HMC54151UC, connects with a 120-volt NEMA 5-20 plug rather than a hardwired 240-volt line. When it loses power mid-bake, the outlet and its 20-amp circuit are checked before the oven itself.

Full power steps down after 30 minutes

Bosch's speed oven drops from full microwave power to 80 percent after 30 minutes at 100 percent, on purpose. Owners who see the power level change during a long cook are seeing a designed limit, not a control problem.

Motorized drawer, not a manual one

The 800 Series drawer microwave opens and closes from its keys, and Bosch asks owners not to push or pull the drawer by hand except in an emergency such as a power failure. Forcing it is one of the ways the drive gears get damaged.

One side-swing model, two trim widths

The 300 Series 24-inch built-in microwave with a left side-opening door goes into a 27-inch or a 30-inch opening with the matching trim kit, which must be bought with it. A replacement has to match the kit already in the wall.

Parts

Keypads, door switches and the drawer's drive parts are ordered by E-number and FD number from the data plate. Trim kits for the side-swing built-in are separate items and are ordered by width.

Repair or replace

Drawers and built-ins sit in cut-outs sized for them, so a repair nearly always makes more sense than a swap. On an entry-level hood microwave with a failed magnetron and several years of use, a replacement is worth a look.

Bosch sets it to fall from 100 percent to 80 percent after 30 minutes at full power to avoid overcooking. That is normal behavior.
My Bosch drawer microwave is stuck. Should I pull it?
Bosch says to use the Open and Close keys and to move the drawer by hand only in an emergency such as a power failure, slowly. If the keys do nothing, check LOCK ON first, then book a visit.
