What LOCK ON
actually means.

Panel Lock on the Bosch drawer microwave freezes the touch controls and the motorized drawer together, so it will not slide open when a child presses Open. It is switched on and off by holding the number 5 for three seconds, which is easy to do by accident while cleaning.

What to do when LOCK ON shows on the microwave

Before you book,
in this order.

Each step comes from Bosch's own guidance for LOCK ON on its microwaves. Follow it to the end: the last card says whether this is a visit.

01

Touch and hold the number 5 for 3 seconds; LOCK OFF should appear.

02

If the lock came on during cleaning, finish wiping first, then unlock.

03

If LOCK OFF shows but the drawer still ignores Open, book a visit to check the drawer mechanism.

Cleared?

The code has gone and a mug of water heats again without a new part. If it comes back this week, or the food starts coming out cold in the middle, mention in the booking that it came back.

What not to do

LOCK ON does not mean the drawer motor or its gears have failed. It also clears itself after a power interruption, so a lock that returns on its own after an outage was set again by someone.

What you may
notice with it.

The microwave problems LOCK ON tends to arrive with. Answer these at the microwave before anyone is booked.

All problems

No repair indicated

Nothing to repair.

Something was switched on rather than something wearing out: a child or control lock set by a long press on the wrong pad, after which no key answers, a demo or showroom setting that lights the display and turns the plate while nothing warms, a Sabbath setting that dims the panel and mutes the beeps, or a clock left blinking after an outage that holds the keypad until it is set. No part is needed; a key sequence from the manual switches it off again.

Questions
about LOCK ON.

Can I clear LOCK ON myself?
Touch and hold the number 5 for 3 seconds; LOCK OFF should appear.
My Bosch drawer microwave will not open. Could it be locked?
Yes. With LOCK ON the drawer ignores the Open key. Hold 5 for three seconds to release it.
Does a power outage undo the Bosch Panel Lock?
Yes. Bosch notes the lock is canceled whenever power is interrupted, so set it again afterward if you rely on it.
Can I pull a locked Bosch drawer open by hand?
Bosch asks you not to push or pull the drawer by hand except in an emergency such as a power failure. Unlock it with the panel instead.

Three details make the booking useful: the characters or beeps just as they appeared, every character of the model number, and whether a cup of water still warms up. With those, the technician arrives already halfway to the answer.
