What LOC
actually means.

GE Profile microwaves have a control lock meant for cleaning and for keeping children away from the keys. While it is on, every press brings up LOC (CONTROL LOCKED or CONTROL LOCK IS ON on the hood models) and nothing starts.

What to do when LOC shows on the microwave

Before you book,
in this order.

Each step comes from GE Profile's own guidance for LOC on its microwaves. Follow it to the end: the last card says whether this is a visit.

01

Hold Cancel/Off for about 3 seconds on the built-in, countertop or drawer models.

02

On the PVM9005 hold Lock Control, and on the PVM9179 hold Mute On/Off, for about 3 seconds.

03

If the message will not clear, switch the breaker off for 30 seconds and try again before booking a visit.

Cleared?

The code has gone and a mug of water heats again without a new part. If it comes back this week, or the food starts coming out cold in the middle, mention in the booking that it came back.

What not to do

LOC is not a failed touchpad, even though the keys seem dead. It is also not F3, which is a key stuck on rather than a lock someone set.

What you may
notice with it.

The microwave problems LOC tends to arrive with. Answer these at the microwave before anyone is booked.

All problems

No repair indicated

Nothing to repair.

Something was switched on rather than something wearing out: a child or control lock set by a long press on the wrong pad, after which no key answers, a demo or showroom setting that lights the display and turns the plate while nothing warms, a Sabbath setting that dims the panel and mutes the beeps, or a clock left blinking after an outage that holds the keypad until it is set. No part is needed; a key sequence from the manual switches it off again.

Questions
about LOC.

Can I clear LOC myself?
Hold Cancel/Off for about 3 seconds on the built-in, countertop or drawer models.
Why do all the keys on my GE Profile microwave do nothing?
Look for LOC or CONTROL LOCKED on the display. The lock may have been set by accident during cleaning; a 3-second hold on the right key releases it.
Which key unlocks a GE Profile PVM9179?
Mute On/Off, held for about 3 seconds. The built-in and countertop models use Cancel/Off instead.
Does the lock stay on after a power outage on a GE Profile microwave?
If the keys stay locked after power returns, hold the unlock key again. If that fails, cut power at the breaker for 30 seconds and retry.

Still showing LOC?

Three details make the booking useful: the characters or beeps just as they appeared, every character of the model number, and whether a cup of water still warms up. With those, the technician arrives already halfway to the answer.
