What F5
actually means.

F5 is the shorted counterpart of F4. The humidity sensor or its wiring reads as a short, so the control cannot use it to time sensor programs.

What to do when F5 shows on the microwave

Before you book,
in this order.

Each step comes from GE Profile's own guidance for F5 on its microwaves. Follow it to the end: the last card says whether this is a visit.

01

Press Cancel/Off and use Cook Time instead of sensor keys.

02

Reset the breaker for 30 seconds.

03

Book a visit if F5 appears again so the sensor and harness can be tested.

Still there?

It usually turns into microwave control board and touchpad repair. Book with the code and the model number.

What not to do

F5 is not a sign that the magnetron has failed, since heating by time is a separate path. Grease or moisture on a sensor connector can cause it, which is why the connector is checked before the sensor is replaced.

What you may
notice with it.

The microwave problems F5 tends to arrive with. Answer these at the microwave before anyone is booked.

Questions
about F5.

Can I clear F5 myself?
Press Cancel/Off and use Cook Time instead of sensor keys. If it comes back, it needs a visit.
Why does my GE Profile microwave show F5 only on sensor reheat?
Sensor programs are the ones that read the humidity sensor, so they are where a shorted reading shows up.
Is F5 worse than F4 on a GE Profile?
Neither is dangerous; both stop sensor cooking. F5 more often traces to a connector or wiring short.
Can cleaning fix F5 on a GE Profile hood microwave?
Not from the outside. The sensor sits behind the panels, so testing it is a technician's job.

Still showing F5?

Three details make the booking useful: the characters or beeps just as they appeared, every character of the model number, and whether a cup of water still warms up. With those, the technician arrives already halfway to the answer.
