What A1
actually means.

On the touch-screen Series 7 and Series 9 speed ovens, A1 is the general overheat alert. The oven beeps, shows the code and waits for the cavity to cool and the door lock to release; the maker's own step after that is a power reset.

What to do when A1 shows on the microwave

Kind of codeSensors and temperature

The control has stopped trusting what one of its sensors reports: the cook or humidity sensor that ends a sensor reheat when steam rises, or a thermal cutout that trips when the cavity or the magnetron runs too hot. A cutout that opens stops the microwave mid-cycle and often recovers once it cools; one that keeps tripping, or a sensor program that shuts off at once every time, needs the sensor, its wiring or the airflow behind it checked.

Usually leads toMicrowave control board and touchpad repair

Tracing a dead display, keys that do not answer or a code that keeps returning to the keypad, the ribbon, the relays or the main board, and replacing only the part that failed.

Shows up asWhat a Microwave Error Code Is Telling You

A microwave error code may be a letter and a number on the display, a lock or demo word, a row of dashes, or a beep with a blinking clock, and it can show while the microwave still heats or block every key until it is cleared.

Before you book,
in this order.

Each step comes from Fisher & Paykel's own guidance for A1 on its microwaves. Follow it to the end: the last card says whether this is a visit.

01

Leave the door shut and let the cooling fans run until they stop by themselves.

02

When the door has unlocked and the cavity is cool, cut power at the panel for about a minute, then restore it.

03

Look at the trim and the cabinet opening for anything that blocks the vent slots, such as a towel or a tight filler strip.

04

If A1 shows again on the next cook, write down the mode and temperature that were running and book a visit.

What not to do

A1 speaks about the cavity as a whole, not about the microwave generator, which has its own alert, A5. It does not ask you to open or take apart anything: the fans and a power reset once the oven is cool are the whole owner's part.

Questions
about A1.

Can I clear A1 myself?
Leave the door shut and let the cooling fans run until they stop by themselves. If it comes back, it needs a visit.
Why does my Fisher & Paykel speed oven show A1 after a long convection bake?
Long convection, broil or combination runs load the cavity and the cabinet around it with the most heat. One A1 after such a run can be a one-off, but a repeat points at the cooling path through the trim or a weak cooling fan.
Can I switch the breaker off as soon as A1 appears?
Not while the oven is hot. Fisher & Paykel asks you to leave power on until it has cooled, because the cooling fans protect the oven and the cabinetry around it.
Is it safe to keep using the speed oven after A1 clears?
If the alert clears after the reset and stays away, the guide lets you carry on cooking. A second A1 means the oven should rest until a visit, where its fan and temperature sensor get tested.

Three details make the booking useful: the characters or beeps just as they appeared, every character of the model number, and whether a cup of water still warms up. With those, the technician arrives already halfway to the answer.
