A built-in microwave in a kitchen cabinet stopped halfway through a cycle, a covered glass dish of vegetables inside behind the mesh window and a faint wisp of steam on the glass.

What ERROR
actually means.

The word ERROR is used in two ways. On the hood and compact models it appears when the sensor never detects steam from the food, or when the door is opened or STOP/CLEAR is pressed while the sensor is measuring; on those models and the drawer it also appears when a clock time is typed in the wrong format.

What to do when ERROR shows on the microwave

Before you book,
in this order.

Each step comes from Fisher & Paykel's own guidance for ERROR on its microwaves. Follow it to the end: the last card says whether this is a visit.

01

Press STOP/CLEAR, then re-enter the clock time in 12-hour form if you were setting the clock.

02

For a sensor program, keep the door shut and leave STOP/CLEAR alone until the remaining time appears.

03

Dry the dish and the cavity, cover the food loosely, and make sure the room is not unusually warm.

04

If ERROR ends every sensor program even with a normal load, cook with time and power instead and book a visit to test the humidity sensor.

Still there?

It usually turns into microwave control board and touchpad repair. Book with the code and the model number.

What not to do

ERROR is not a burned-out magnetron: timed cooking still heats normally when only the sensor is involved. On the drawers it is also shown when a sensor program is paused or canceled while the food name is on the display, which is an operating event rather than a problem.

What you may
notice with it.

The microwave problems ERROR tends to arrive with. Answer these at the microwave before anyone is booked.

Every code on this site is taken from the manufacturer's documentation, never from a forum or a parts listing. CMOH-30SS, CMO-24SS and MO-24SS show ERROR for both sensor and clock entries. The OMD24SPX1 / OMD24SDB1 drawers use it for a bad clock format and for a sensor program canceled while the food name shows.

Questions
about ERROR.

Can I clear ERROR myself?
Press STOP/CLEAR, then re-enter the clock time in 12-hour form if you were setting the clock. If it comes back, it needs a visit.
Why does my Fisher & Paykel microwave show ERROR halfway through sensor reheat?
The sensor needs an uninterrupted first stage to read the steam coming off the food. Opening the door or pressing STOP/CLEAR during that stage, or a food that gives off almost no steam, ends the program with ERROR.
Why do I get ERROR when setting the clock?
The hood and compact models use a 12-hour clock, so a time such as 13:30 is refused. Press STOP/CLEAR and enter the time again in 12-hour form.
When is ERROR a sign of a repair?
When every sensor program fails with ERROR even with a normal, covered dish in a dry cavity. Timed cooking will still work, and the sensor can be tested on a visit.

Still showing ERROR?

Three details make the booking useful: the characters or beeps just as they appeared, every character of the model number, and whether a cup of water still warms up. With those, the technician arrives already halfway to the answer.
