What A5
actually means.

A5 is the second overheat alert on the Series 7 and Series 9 speed ovens, and it points at the microwave system rather than the cavity. Long runs at full microwave power, a very small load or a cooling fan that no longer moves enough air can bring it on; the guide's answer is to cool down and reset the power.

What to do when A5 shows on the microwave

Before you book,
in this order.

Each step comes from Fisher & Paykel's own guidance for A5 on its microwaves. Follow it to the end: the last card says whether this is a visit.

01

Stop the program and keep the door closed while the fans cool the oven.

02

After the cool-down, cut power at the panel for a minute and restore it.

03

Never test the microwave mode empty; if you try again, put a cup of water inside.

04

If A5 returns, book a visit: the magnetron, its thermal cutout and the cooling fan sit inside the cabinet, which is never an owner job.

Still there?

It usually turns into microwave magnetron repair. Book with the code and the model number.

What not to do

A5 is not the same as A1, which reports heat in the cavity as a whole. One A5 does not prove the magnetron is failing, but a repeat A5 is exactly where we test it first.

Questions
about A5.

Can I clear A5 myself?
Stop the program and keep the door closed while the fans cool the oven. If it comes back, it needs a visit.
What makes A5 appear on a Fisher & Paykel speed oven?
Anything that lets the microwave section run hotter than it should: long full-power runs, very small or empty loads, or a cooling fan that is slowing down. The code is the oven protecting that section before damage is done.
Why are the fans still running after A5 stopped my cooking?
That is normal and wanted. The guide says the cooling fans keep going after the oven is off, and they are what brings the microwave section back down to a safe temperature.
Does A5 mean the magnetron has to be replaced?
Not by itself. If A5 comes back after a cool-down and a power reset, the magnetron, its thermal cutout and the fan all need testing, which is done on a visit with the cabinet closed to the owner.

Still showing A5?

Three details make the booking useful: the characters or beeps just as they appeared, every character of the model number, and whether a cup of water still warms up. With those, the technician arrives already halfway to the answer.
