What F3T4
actually means.

A KitchenAid hood combination keeps a temperature sensor on the magnetron so it can stop the tube before it overheats. F3T4 says that sensor or its circuit has gone out of range, and the control shuts heating down rather than run the magnetron blind.

What to do when F3T4 shows on the microwave

Before you book,
in this order.

Each step comes from KitchenAid's own guidance for F3T4 on its microwaves. Follow it to the end: the last card says whether this is a visit.

01

Switch the microwave off at the breaker for one full minute, then switch it back on.

02

Leave it idle for a minute and watch the display; if the code does not return, run a short test cycle.

03

Make sure nothing is stacked on top of the unit or blocking the grille, since the magnetron is cooled by air drawn through the unit.

04

If F3T4 returns, stop using the microwave and book a visit; the sensor sits next to high-voltage parts that stay charged after unplugging.

What not to do

F3T4 is not the same as a magnetron that has failed; the sensor or its wires are the first suspects. It is also not a door code, so opening and closing the door will not clear it.

Questions
about F3T4.

Can I clear F3T4 myself?
Switch the microwave off at the breaker for one full minute, then switch it back on. If it comes back, it needs a visit.
Does F3T4 on a KitchenAid mean the magnetron is dead?
Not necessarily. The code is about the thermistor that watches the magnetron, and a sensor or wiring repair is far more common than a new tube.
Can I replace the KitchenAid magnetron sensor myself?
No. It sits inside the cabinet beside the high-voltage capacitor, which holds a dangerous charge even unplugged. That work is for a technician.
Why did my KitchenAid stop halfway and show F3T4?
The control saw an out-of-range reading during heating and shut the magnetron down to protect it. Reset it once; if it repeats, book a visit.

Still showing F3T4?

Three details make the booking useful: the characters or beeps just as they appeared, every character of the model number, and whether a cup of water still warms up. With those, the technician arrives already halfway to the answer.
