A built-in microwave in a kitchen cabinet stopped halfway through a cycle, a covered glass dish of vegetables inside behind the mesh window and a faint wisp of steam on the glass.

What F2
actually means.

Where F1 is an open reading, F2 is the opposite: the thermal sensor or its wiring reads as shorted. The control cannot trust its heat reading and stops the microwave.

What to do when F2 shows on the microwave

Before you book,
in this order.

Each step comes from GE Profile's own guidance for F2 on its microwaves. Follow it to the end: the last card says whether this is a visit.

01

Press Cancel/Off and note when the code appeared.

02

Cut power at the breaker, wait half a minute and restore it.

03

If F2 comes back, stop using the microwave and book a visit so the sensor and harness can be tested.

Still there?

It usually turns into microwave control board and touchpad repair. Book with the code and the model number.

What not to do

F2 is not caused by the food or by how the microwave was used, unlike F1. It points to a part or a wire rather than to a hot cavity.

What you may
notice with it.

Questions
about F2.

Can I clear F2 myself?
Press Cancel/Off and note when the code appeared. If it comes back, it needs a visit.
How is F2 different from F1 on a GE Profile microwave?
F1 is an open sensor after excess heat; F2 is a shorted sensor reading. F2 almost always needs a part or a wiring repair.
Will resetting the breaker fix F2 on a GE Profile?
Sometimes the code clears after a 30-second power reset, but a short that returns needs a technician.
Can I still cook if F2 comes and goes?
It is better not to rely on it; the control cannot read the temperature correctly while the sensor circuit reads shorted.

Still showing F2?

Three details make the booking useful: the characters or beeps just as they appeared, every character of the model number, and whether a cup of water still warms up. With those, the technician arrives already halfway to the answer.
