What DEMO ON
actually means.

Demonstration Mode lets the Bosch drawer count down quickly through programs with no microwave power, as it would on a showroom floor. It is buried eleven presses deep in the timer/settings key, so it is rarely switched on by accident, but units sometimes arrive or are reset that way.

What to do when DEMO ON shows on the microwave

Before you book,
in this order.

Each step comes from Bosch's own guidance for DEMO ON on its microwaves. Follow it to the end: the last card says whether this is a visit.

01

Touch the timer/settings key eleven times until DEMO OFF? TOUCH START shows.

02

Touch Start (+30 secs); DEMO OFF confirms it.

03

Heat a cup of water for a minute; if it stays cold with Demo off, book a visit.

Cleared?

The code has gone and a mug of water heats again without a new part. If it comes back this week, or the food starts coming out cold in the middle, mention in the booking that it came back.

What not to do

A drawer in Demo mode is not a broken magnetron. A timer that races down much faster than real seconds is a sign of Demo mode rather than a control problem.

What you may
notice with it.

The microwave problems DEMO ON tends to arrive with. Answer these at the microwave before anyone is booked.

All problems

No repair indicated

Nothing to repair.

Something was switched on rather than something wearing out: a child or control lock set by a long press on the wrong pad, after which no key answers, a demo or showroom setting that lights the display and turns the plate while nothing warms, a Sabbath setting that dims the panel and mutes the beeps, or a clock left blinking after an outage that holds the keypad until it is set. No part is needed; a key sequence from the manual switches it off again.

Still showing DEMO ON?

Three details make the booking useful: the characters or beeps just as they appeared, every character of the model number, and whether a cup of water still warms up. With those, the technician arrives already halfway to the answer.
