A built-in microwave in a kitchen cabinet stopped halfway through a cycle, a covered glass dish of vegetables inside behind the mesh window and a faint wisp of steam on the glass.

SKS F2: the speed oven's high thermistor reads shorted

Where F1 is an open circuit, F2 is the opposite reading from the same sensor: the control sees a short on the high thermistor.

What F2
actually means.

Where F1 is an open circuit, F2 is the opposite reading from the same sensor: the control sees a short on the high thermistor. A shorted reading looks like an impossible temperature, so the control ends the cycle and beeps until it is cleared.

What to do when F2 shows on the microwave

Before you book,
in this order.

Each step comes from SKS's own guidance for F2 on its microwaves. Follow it to the end: the last card says whether this is a visit.

01

Press CLEAR/OFF to stop the beeping.

02

Let the cavity cool, then start one short cooking function to see whether F2 comes back.

03

If it returns, note the code, turn the unit off at the breaker and book a visit; the sensor is reached from outside the cooking cavity and is not an owner repair.

Still there?

It usually turns into microwave control board and touchpad repair. Book with the code and the model number.

What not to do

F2 is not a warning that the cavity is too hot, which SKS lists separately as F6. It is also not a touchpad problem; a shorted key has its own code, F3.

What you may
notice with it.

The microwave problems F2 tends to arrive with. Answer these at the microwave before anyone is booked.

Questions
about F2.

Can I clear F2 myself?
Press CLEAR/OFF to stop the beeping. If it comes back, it needs a visit.
What is the difference between F1 and F2 on an SKS speed oven?
Both concern the same sensor. F1 means the control reads no circuit at all, F2 means it reads a short, and either way the part or its connection needs testing.
Could steam or a spill on my SKS speed oven cause F2?
Moisture reaching a connector can upset a sensor reading, which is one reason to let the unit dry and cool before retrying. A code that repeats after that is a parts question rather than a cleaning one.
Does F2 on my SKS speed oven mean the whole control board has failed?
Not necessarily. The manual names the sensor as the cause, so a technician checks the sensor and its harness before looking at the board.

Still showing F2?

Three details make the booking useful: the characters or beeps just as they appeared, every character of the model number, and whether a cup of water still warms up. With those, the technician arrives already halfway to the answer.
