Countertop microwaves built for the US from April 2024 carry a child-resistant door lock. Once a cycle starts, the door stays locked for 30 minutes after the cycle ends or pauses unless you press the model's unlock key. Sharp shows DOOR LOCK ON or Door when the lock is enabled and DOOR LOCK OFF or OFF when it is disabled.

To disable the lock, use Sharp's sequence for your model: 7-9-0 holding 0 for 3 seconds on most push-button and handle models, or HELP/SETTINGS, 6, STOP/CLEAR on the SMC1585.
If the door stays shut with the lock disabled and power on, book a visit so the latch can be checked; never force the door.
