What SE
actually means.

On older JennAir hood combinations, SE is the stuck-key warning. The board sees a key that never lets go, from wear, spilled liquid or a pinched cable, and it refuses to cook so that key cannot start the microwave by itself.

What to do when SE shows on the microwave

Before you book,
in this order.

Each step comes from JennAir's own guidance for SE on its microwaves. Follow it to the end: the last card says whether this is a visit.

01

Turn the microwave off at the circuit breaker, count a full minute, then restore power.

02

Wipe the panel with a cloth that is only slightly damp, then dry it; never spray the keys directly.

03

Give it a minute on standby; a code that does not reappear was likely a one-time glitch, so run a short cycle to confirm.

04

If SE returns, book a visit for a replacement keypad.

Still there?

It usually turns into microwave control board and touchpad repair. Book with the code and the model number.

What not to do

SE is not a special mode and not a house power problem, which shows up as PF. It also does not point at the magnetron.

What you may
notice with it.

The microwave problems SE tends to arrive with. Answer these at the microwave before anyone is booked.

Questions
about SE.

Can I clear SE myself?
Turn the microwave off at the circuit breaker, count a full minute, then restore power. If it comes back, it needs a visit.
Why does my older JennAir show SE?
A key reads as always pressed. Years of use, spills and steam are the usual reasons on an older membrane.
Will my JennAir cook while SE is showing?
No, and that is deliberate: a stuck key must not be able to start the microwave.
Is SE on a JennAir a board replacement?
Usually it is the keypad, not the board. The key circuit is tested first.

Still showing SE?

Three details make the booking useful: the characters or beeps just as they appeared, every character of the model number, and whether a cup of water still warms up. With those, the technician arrives already halfway to the answer.
