What Demo
actually means.

Retail floors use Demo mode so shoppers can press keys without heating anything. On a JennAir hood combination the display shows dOn or dOff when it is changed, and on the drawer the light comes on and the fan runs, which makes it look like a microwave that has stopped heating.

What to do when Demo shows on the microwave

Before you book,
in this order.

Each step comes from JennAir's own guidance for Demo on its microwaves. Follow it to the end: the last card says whether this is a visit.

01

Hood combination: open the door, hold the 3 key for 5 seconds, then press Start within 5 seconds and wait for dOff.

02

Microwave drawer: touch Setup five times, then hold Start for 3 seconds.

03

Heat a cup of water for one minute on full power to prove heating is back; if it stays cold, book a visit.

Cleared?

The code has gone and a mug of water heats again without a new part. If it comes back this week, or the food starts coming out cold in the middle, mention in the booking that it came back.

What not to do

Demo mode is not a failed magnetron, diode or capacitor, and needs no parts. If the water stays cold with Demo confirmed off, the high-voltage section is suspect and only a technician should handle it.

What you may
notice with it.

The microwave problems Demo tends to arrive with. Answer these at the microwave before anyone is booked.

All problems

No repair indicated

Nothing to repair.

Something was switched on rather than something wearing out: a child or control lock set by a long press on the wrong pad, after which no key answers, a demo or showroom setting that lights the display and turns the plate while nothing warms, a Sabbath setting that dims the panel and mutes the beeps, or a clock left blinking after an outage that holds the keypad until it is set. No part is needed; a key sequence from the manual switches it off again.

In JennAir's own words

Open door, press and hold number keypad “3” for 5 seconds, “d” icon lights up in the display.

Questions
about Demo.

Can I clear Demo myself?
Hood combination: open the door, hold the 3 key for 5 seconds, then press Start within 5 seconds and wait for dOff.
My JennAir drawer hums and lights up but food stays cold. Is it Demo mode?
It may be. JennAir says the light and fan run in Demo mode while the magnetron stays off, so check that setting before anything else.
What do dOn and dOff mean on a JennAir?
They confirm that Demo mode was just switched on or off on a hood combination.
Does Demo mode damage a JennAir microwave?
No. It is a harmless display setting; switching it off returns normal heating.

Still showing Demo?

Three details make the booking useful: the characters or beeps just as they appeared, every character of the model number, and whether a cup of water still warms up. With those, the technician arrives already halfway to the answer.
