What Press OK for 6 seconds
actually means.

Miele's system lock stops a cooking process from being started by accident. When the appliance is switched on with the lock active, the display asks you to hold OK, or the lock symbol on a speed oven, for six seconds. That unlocks it for one cooking process; the setting itself stays on until you change it.

What to do when Press OK for 6 seconds shows on the microwave

Before you book,
in this order.

Each step comes from Miele's own guidance for Press OK for 6 seconds on its microwaves. Follow it to the end: the last card says whether this is a visit.

01

Touch and hold OK, or the lock symbol on a speed oven, for at least 6 seconds.

02

To end the lock for good, choose Safety, then System lock, then Off in the settings menu.

03

If holding the key for longer than 6 seconds does nothing, restart the appliance with the On/Off button and book a visit if the controls stay unresponsive.

Cleared?

The code has gone and a mug of water heats again without a new part. If it comes back this week, or the food starts coming out cold in the middle, mention in the booking that it came back.

What not to do

The system lock is not a door lock and does not keep the door shut. It is also different from a dark display, which on Miele microwaves is often the clock display set to Off.

All problems

No repair indicated

Nothing to repair.

Something was switched on rather than something wearing out: a child or control lock set by a long press on the wrong pad, after which no key answers, a demo or showroom setting that lights the display and turns the plate while nothing warms, a Sabbath setting that dims the panel and mutes the beeps, or a clock left blinking after an outage that holds the keypad until it is set. No part is needed; a key sequence from the manual switches it off again.

In Miele's own words

You can deactivate the system lock for a cooking process by touching the OK sensor control for at least 6 seconds.

Not when holding the lock symbol for six seconds releases it. A panel that ignores even that long press needs a technician.

Three details make the booking useful: the characters or beeps just as they appeared, every character of the model number, and whether a cup of water still warms up. With those, the technician arrives already halfway to the answer.
