What WELCOME
actually means.

When a Viking microwave gets power back, it shows WELCOME, followed on some models by PRESS CLEAR AND PRESS CLOCK or TOUCH CLEAR. The outage wipes the clock and any cooking program that was running, so the unit is waiting to be set up again.

What to do when WELCOME shows on the microwave

Before you book,
in this order.

Each step comes from Viking's own guidance for WELCOME on its microwaves. Follow it to the end: the last card says whether this is a visit.

01

Touch Stop/Clear and set the clock.

02

Start any interrupted cooking again from the beginning.

03

If WELCOME returns during cooking with no outage in the house, check the breaker and book a visit to look at the supply to the microwave.

Still there?

It usually turns into microwave diagnostic visit. Book with the code and the model number.

What not to do

WELCOME is not an alarm or a request for service by itself. It is also not the ERROR that Viking shows for a wrong clock entry, which can follow if the time is keyed in incorrectly.

What you may
notice with it.

The microwave problems WELCOME tends to arrive with. Answer these at the microwave before anyone is booked.

Questions
about WELCOME.

Can I clear WELCOME myself?
Touch Stop/Clear and set the clock. If it comes back, it needs a visit.
My Viking microwave shows WELCOME every few days. Why?
Each WELCOME means power dropped. If the rest of the house did not lose power, a breaker, a shared circuit or a loose connection behind the unit is the likely cause.
Do I have to restart food that was cooking when WELCOME appeared on my Viking?
Yes. The manual says the program is erased by the outage, so check the food and start again.
Why does my Viking microwave hood combination show WELCOME after installation?
That is the first-power screen. Touch Stop/Clear, set the clock and it goes away.

Still showing WELCOME?

Three details make the booking useful: the characters or beeps just as they appeared, every character of the model number, and whether a cup of water still warms up. With those, the technician arrives already halfway to the answer.
