Some 500 buildings on 26 blocks, many with cast-iron fronts or details, make up the landmark district that covers nearly all of SoHo. ## What SoHo does to a microwave. The median housing unit in ZIP code 10012 dates from 1939 or earlier, the oldest bracket the Census Bureau reports. In the 1990s real estate agents began giving the blocks just west of it names such as West SoHo and Hudson Square. In that ZIP code, 43 percent of homes are in buildings of 2 to 19 units and 56 percent in buildings of 20 or more. [All of New York Metro](https://microwaverepair.center/locations/new-york/) ### Older housing stock Older houses run the kitchen on circuits laid out long before microwaves, and a unit that trips the breaker or dims the lights on start may be healthy on a circuit that is not; the circuit is measured first. ### Tower living Tower kitchens are usually all-electric and often cannot duct outside, so the microwave hood combination cleans the air through a charcoal filter, and one left unchanged for years is why the apartment still smells of last week's dinner. ### Apartments and walk-ups In a small apartment kitchen the microwave hood combination hangs low over the cooking surface to save counter space, and steam from every pot rises into its touchpad and fan, which wear sooner than they would in a bigger room. ## A visit in SoHo.
