What the kitchens here do to microwaves, the areas we cover, and how to book." url: "https://microwaverepair.center/locations/new-york/" --- New York Metro, NY # Microwave repair in New York Metro. New York microwaves are mostly countertop units and microwave hood combinations in small apartment kitchens, with built-in units and drawers in renovated lofts and brownstones. Older buildings share kitchen circuits, many apartments clean cooking air through the microwave's charcoal filter, and narrow stairs make repair far easier than carrying a replacement up. ## What New York Metro does to a microwave. Con Edison's system in New York City and Westchester runs on about 93,000 miles of underground cable plus nearly 36,000 miles of overhead wire. PSEG Long Island delivers electricity to roughly 1.1 million customers in Nassau and Suffolk counties and on the Rockaway Peninsula in Queens. Two days after Hurricane Sandy, on the morning of November 2, 2012, more than 1.3 million customers in New York were still without power, down from 2.2 million. Nearly half of New York City's homes, 49 percent, are apartments in buildings with 20 or more units; detached houses account for just 9 percent. The counties ### Tower living In a tower a microwave that smokes brings alarms and building staff quickly, so the door stays shut, the cycle is stopped and the breaker is switched off, and whatever is burning inside the cavity starves out. ### Apartments and walk-ups Small kitchens have few outlets, and a microwave sharing a power strip with the toaster and the kettle trips breakers and strains its own fuse, so the visit looks at the outlet before the unit. ### Older housing stock Older houses run the kitchen on circuits laid out long before microwaves, and a unit that trips the breaker or dims the lights on start may be healthy on a circuit that is not; the circuit is measured first. ## The work, in New York Metro. Ten microwave repairs, cheapest first, each with what New York Metro changes about it. [What we do](https://microwaverepair.center/services/) ### Microwave diagnostic visit Many New York galleys hang a microwave hood combination low over the cooking surface, and the diagnostic visit works from the front, reading the door interlocks and running a heating test without lifting the unit off its wall plate. ### Microwave turntable and motor repair A compact New York microwave whose tray wobbles or stops may simply be carrying a plate wider than its cavity, and the technician rules that out before testing the coupler and the small motor that turns the tray from below. ### Microwave door switch and latch repair A New York galley puts the microwave hood combination at head height beside the cabinets, where its side-hinged door takes knocks from shoulders and pot handles; a door knocked out of line is not used again until its latch and switches are set right. ### Microwave vent fan and filter repair Most New York apartments have no duct to the street, so a microwave hood combination cleans the air through its charcoal filter, and when the fan rattles or quits the repair renews the filter and the motor from beneath the cabinet. ### Microwave light and fuse repair In older New York apartments a microwave and a toaster on one outlet trip breakers, and a unit that went dark while the breaker held has likely blown its own fuse; that fuse is inside the cabinet, so the technician replaces it. ### Microwave magnetron repair In a New York apartment the microwave may reheat every meal of the day, and a magnetron worn by years of that duty warms food slowly and in patches before it stops heating altogether, which is when most owners call. ### Microwave high-voltage diode and capacitor repair Older New York buildings still see voltage sag when every apartment runs its air conditioner on a July evening, and a microwave that began to buzz without heating after such a night is checked at its high-voltage diode and capacitor. ### Microwave control board and touchpad repair Steam from the pots below rises straight into a New York microwave hood combination's touchpad in a small kitchen, and years of it lift the membrane at its corners until keys fail; the repair fits a new touchpad and tests the board behind it. ### Microwave drawer mechanism repair A microwave drawer in a renovated New York kitchen may be the only microwave in the apartment, and one that will not open usually has a failed drive motor or door sensor; the repair is done from the front with the drawer left in place. ### Speed and convection microwave repair Where a New York kitchen has no room for a second oven, a convection microwave does double duty, and when its fan or element fails the owner loses baking entirely, so the repair orders the model's own part before the visit. ## The microwaves we see most here.
