Craftsman kitchens remodeled around old wiring put the microwave on a circuit it shares, and a tripped breaker is a common start; near Altadena the Eaton fire of January 2025 left many kitchens unpowered for days. ## What Pasadena does to a microwave. Pasadena Water and Power, a city department, serves about 23 square miles, including unincorporated parts of southern Altadena, East Pasadena, Chapman Woods and East San Gabriel. The city bought out Southern California Edison's Pasadena operations in 1920, and its water and light departments were merged into Pasadena Water and Power in 1967. Santa Ana winds in Pasadena can bring heat, high winds, power outages and tree damage. NOAA's Pasadena station averages about nine or ten days a year at 100 degrees or hotter on its 1991–2020 normals. [All of Los Angeles](https://microwaverepair.center/locations/los-angeles/) ### Older housing stock Older houses run the kitchen on circuits laid out long before microwaves, and a unit that trips the breaker or dims the lights on start may be healthy on a circuit that is not; the circuit is measured first. ### Mixed housing Older houses on a mixed street often keep a countertop microwave on the one kitchen outlet, while newer ones give the hood combination its own circuit, and that difference explains many breakfast-time breaker trips. ### Family houses Heavy dishes for family meals crack glass trays and wear turntable couplers, and a plate that stops or grinds is usually a small part under the cavity floor rather than a microwave at the end of its life. ## A visit in Pasadena.
