Error codes

# Microwave error codes, read properly.

A code narrows the search and is also the thing most often read wrong: the same characters mean different things on different brands, and a fair number of the codes people look up are not failures at all — they are modes the appliance was left in.

## Find your code, make by make.

Type the characters exactly as the display shows them, or pick the make. Each code has a page of its own: what it means on that brand, what to check, and what not to do.

### Only confirmed codes

Every code here is taken from the manufacturer's own documentation, never from a forum or a parts listing. If yours is not listed, book with the exact characters and the full model number, and we will tell you whether it is one we take.

## Three things before you look it up.

A code is a lead, not a verdict. These decide whether the answer you find will be any use.

01

### Copy the display exactly

Write the characters down as shown, or count the beeps and how often a symbol blinks. Photograph it first; opening the door or a power cut can wipe it.

02

### Photograph the plate

Look on the frame inside the door, under a hood combination near the lamp, or on a drawer's frame. One code on two makes can point to two unrelated parts.

03

### Sparks, smoke or a bad door?

If it sparked, smoked, smelled of burning or the door no longer seals, stop using it and book today. A code with the microwave otherwise heating can wait for a regular slot.

## What each kind of code means.

Codes fall into a handful of families. The family says more about the likely repair than the characters do — and one of them is not a repair at all.

[How to read a code](https://microwaverepair.center/problems/microwave-error-code/)

### Mode, not a failure

47 codes

Something was switched on rather than something wearing out: a child or control lock set by a long press on the wrong pad, after which no key answers, a demo or showroom setting that lights the display and turns the plate while nothing warms, a Sabbath setting that dims the panel and mutes the beeps, or a clock left blinking after an outage that holds the keypad until it is set. No part is needed; a key sequence from the manual switches it off again.

### Door and latch switches

2 codes

The control cannot agree with itself about whether the door is shut. A microwave checks its door with several interlock switches behind the latch, and it refuses to heat unless every one reports the same thing; a hook that has worn, a switch that sticks or a door knocked out of line leaves them disagreeing. Sometimes a firm close clears it, but a code that keeps returning, or a microwave that hums with the door open, is taken out of use until the switches are tested.

### Heating and magnetron

5 codes

The microwave ran a cycle and the control saw no heat come of it, or saw the power section behave strangely. The cause sits somewhere in the chain that makes the energy: the magnetron, the high-voltage diode and capacitor, the transformer that feeds them. All of it lives behind the outer cabinet, where a capacitor keeps a dangerous charge even unplugged, so after a restart the owner's part ends at booking the visit.

### Sensors and temperature

46 codes

The control has stopped trusting what one of its sensors reports: the cook or humidity sensor that ends a sensor reheat when steam rises, or a thermal cutout that trips when the cavity or the magnetron runs too hot. A cutout that opens stops the microwave mid-cycle and often recovers once it cools; one that keeps tripping, or a sensor program that shuts off at once every time, needs the sensor, its wiring or the airflow behind it checked.

### Fans and ventilation

5 codes

A fan the microwave depends on has slowed or stopped: the cooling fan that keeps the magnetron and the board from overheating, or on a hood combination the exhaust fan that draws steam up through the grease filters. A filter packed with grease or a damper stuck shut can bring on the same warning, so a clean filter comes first; a motor that hums without turning, or a warning that returns with clean filters, is a repair.

### Control board and touchpad

27 codes

The electronics that read the keys and run the cycle have flagged a problem with themselves: a key that the control sees as held down for too long, a membrane keypad worn through or swollen by steam, a lost link between the keypad and the board, or a board that failed its own check after a surge. A breaker reset now and then clears a glitch; a stuck key or a code that comes straight back points to the keypad or the board.

### Power and supply

20 codes

The microwave has noticed trouble with the power reaching it: an outage or a brownout that interrupted a cycle, a voltage too low for the magnetron to start, or a supply that dipped when something else on the circuit switched on. As often as not the cause is the circuit, the outlet in the cabinet above or the breaker rather than the unit; a main fuse that blows again after a reset points inside, where only a technician goes.

## Questions about the codes.

### The code on my microwave is not on this list. What next?

A code gets a page here only when the maker explains it in writing. In the meantime, include the characters or the beep pattern in your booking and we check them against your model's own documentation.

### My neighbor's microwave showed this code too. Is it the same problem?

Not necessarily. Makers keep their own code lists: the string that means a door switch on one model can mean a sensor on another, and several brands renumbered theirs over the years. A code means something only next to its brand and model.

### Can I clear a microwave code myself?

Often, yes. Close the door firmly, press stop or cancel twice, or switch the breaker off for a minute and back on. A code that does not come back was most likely a door left short of its latch or a momentary dip in power; one that reappears within hours means a part wants checking. If sparks, smoke or a burning smell came with it, skip the reset and book.

### There is a code, but the microwave still heats. Does it need a repair?

Perhaps not. Plenty of the codes owners look up turn out to be settings: a child lock, a demo mode left on from the showroom, Sabbath mode or a clock waiting to be set. Those pages show how to switch the setting off without a part.
